چکیده

End-User Service Composition in Ubiquitous Computing Environments by Mark Webster Newman Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science University of California, Berkeley Professor James A. Landay, Co-chair Professor John Canny, Co-chair The era of ubiquitous computing is upon us. We are seeing a sustained explosion in the numbers and types of networked devices and services with which users can interact. This means that great new capabilities are available to end-users, but such capabilities may come at a cost in terms of the complexity of understanding and managing multiple heterogeneous devices and services. In this dissertation, I present work on the design, development, and evaluation of three systems that offer solutions to existing approaches’ shortcomings with regard to developing networked devices and services for end-users. The Obje Framework is a distributed middleware platform that overcomes the problem of piecemeal interoperability by providing a robust interoperability solution for distributed services by dictating minimal up-front agreements and allowing the details of interoperation to be supplied at runtime through the delivery of mobile code.

User-defined Scenarios in Ubiquitous Environments: Creation, Execution Control and Sharing

Ubiquitous computing provides a dynamic access to different functionalities of networkable electronic devices. Whereas basic services have limited use, predefined complex services cannot encompass every end-user’s needs nor be adapted to a set of services that are dynamically discovered in an open environment. Alternatively, users need to be provided with means to express their requirements, ch...

Context-Aware Ubiquitous Service Composition Technology

A context-aware ubiquitous service composition technology is proposed. This can be used in both enterprise and consumer communication service environments. Because the context-awareness is the one of the most important factors in ubiquitous computing, it is insufficient in conventional service integration based on rigid interface design. The flexible service composition based on user context is...

Multi-Objective Service Composition in Ubiquitous Environments with Service Dependencies

Service composition is a widely used method in ubiquitous computing that enables accomplishing complex tasks required by users based on elementary (hardware and software) services available in ubiquitous environments. To ensure that users experience the best Quality of Service (QoS) with respect to their quality needs, service composition has to be QoS-aware. Establishing QoS-aware service comp...

The Service Recommendation Method based on Semantic Technology in Ubiquitous Computing

In ubiquitous computing environments, users usually compose several services to achieve their goals. The service composition method of this paper is based on WSUN(Web Services on Universal Networks). WSUN approach supports dynamic service composition which takes account of the dynamic factors of ubiquitous environments. In service composition, an operation of a service should be substituted by ...

A Service Component Framework for Multi-User Scenario Management in Ubiquitous Environments

Software dedicated to ubiquitous environments has to deal with the multiplicity of devices and users. It also has to adapt to frequent changes in its environment. Users can easily access and trigger services provided by different devices but also need to implement complex scenarios, i.e., structured compositions of multiple service. State-of-the-art frameworks do not fully meet the expectation ...
